Women's History Month at Pacific, Week 2

Women's History Month at Pacific continues with four events planned for the week.

First, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19, there will be a Student Town Hall with President Eibeck at Grace Covell at 6:30 PM.  President Eibeck is the first woman president of the University of the Pacific!

On Wednesday, March 20, at 8 PM at the MC, Matsuri Japan Club will be putting on the educational program "Way of the Geisha"On Wednesday, March 20, at 8 PM at the MC, Matsuri Japan Club will be putting on the educational program "Way of the Geisha" about the history and culture of Geisha- a term referring to traditional female hostesses- in Japan.  There will be refreshments provided.

Thursday, March 21 is the Advancing Women's Leadership Forum featuring former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, held at Alex Spanos at 9 AM.  Tickets are 25$ and can be picked up at the box office.  Planned in collaboration with high-profile women from throughout San Joaquin County, the forum on Advancing Women's Leadership aims to inspire participants, especially young women, to make a lasting, positive and powerful impact in the communities where they live and work.

Opening the Forum on Advancing Women's Leadership will be Christy Haubegger, founder of the groundbreaking Latina magazine. Now an agent with the Los Angeles-based Creative Artists Agency, Haubegger also serves on the board of Management Leadership for Tomorrow, an organization that works to increase the number of minority MBA candidates at the nation's top business schools.
The forum also will feature a panel of local women leaders who will share their experiences in achieving career and education milestones. They are: Regan Porteous, a current college student and graduate of St. Mary's High School in Stockton; Nikki Lowery, youth pastor and director of women's ministry at First Baptist Church of Stockton; Tori Verber-Salazar, deputy district attorney for San Joaquin County; and the Hon. Connie Callahan, judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Rounding out the week on Friday, March 22, Delta Sigma Theta will be talking about Black Feminism at the Multicultural Center at 6 PM.  Black feminism is a social and political movement borne out of the civil rights era that argues that sexism, class oppression, and racism are all interdependent and that any effort to end one must be an effort to end them all.  It is an example of intersectionality.
Way of the Geisha and Black Feminism are free to attend for all community members, regardless of affiliation with Pacific.

We hope to see you at these events!
